Taking Your Pet to the Vet

Do you have a dog or a cat?

If so, there were probably times when you had to bring them to the vet. But what happens when you take your pet to the vet in China? What vocabulary will you need… what questions will they ask?

As Li Ai’s dog Pang Ba has been out of energy recently, watch her take Pang Ba to a local vet station.

First, let’s look at some Chinese words related to dogs and owing one.

Lǐ Ài: Nǐ hǎo, wǒ de gǒu shēng bìng le, nǐ néng bāng wǒ kànkan ma?
Li Ai: Hello, my dog is sick. Can you help me check him?

医生:怎么了?
Yīshēng: Zěnme le?
Doctor: What’s wrong?

李爱:它最近特别没精神,带它出门特别难,每天只在家睡觉。
Lǐ Ài: Tā zuìjìn tèbié méi jīngshen, dài tā chūmén tèbié nán, měitiān zhǐ zài jiā shuìjiào.
Li Ai: He’s been particularly out of energy recently, and it’s been extremely difficult to take him out, he just sleeps at home every day.

医生:它吃东西怎么样?
Yīshēng: Tā chī dōngxi zěnmeyàng?
Doctor: How is he eating?

李爱:吃东西跟以前一样,没有太大变化。
Lǐ Ài: Chī dōngxi gēn yǐqián yīyàng, méiyǒu tài dà biànhuà.
Li Ai: He’s eating the same as before, there hasn’t been any big change.

医生:我带它做个检查吧。
Yīshēng: Wǒ dài tā zuò gè jiǎnchá ba.
Doctor: I’ll take him for a check.

李爱:好。麻烦你了。
Lǐ Ài: Hǎo. máfan nǐ le.
Li Ai: Ok, thank you.
